The Big Fake Wedding

Raleigh Event Highlight

This past September, The Poppy Shop was asked to participate as the jewelry vendor in a wedding showcase with other local wedding vendors in the Raleigh area. Once we saw the event would be held at one of the most breathtaking Raleigh wedding venues, The Merrimon-Wynne House, AND saw the list of amazing local vendors that has already been selected, we were pretty much sold. However, we wanted to do some research and see what the event was all about. What we found made our decision for us. From that moment on, we knew The Big Fake Wedding was an event we couldn't miss!

Read about our experience and see for yourself how beautiful the Raleigh celebration turned out and prepare to be inspired!

Callie Murray, an aspiring wedding photographer, planned and hosted the first "fake wedding" event, a unique bridal showcase alternative, as a way to build her new business. From the first event in 2008, the meaning of bridal showcases has changed, and standards raised.

Rather than the typical bridal expo activity of simply walking booth to booth collecting business cards and hearing elevator pitches, The Big Fake Wedding offers engaged couples the opportunity to see the products and services of potential wedding vendors in action. Murray and her growing team provide a creative and valuable wedding planning experience full of energy and inspiration for brides (and grooms)-to-be all over the US.

Today, the company has the same goals as it did 10 years ago, “to promote small businesses, inspire brides and grooms, and encourage solid marriages” and we couldn’t agree more. What started as an experimental idea, has become a successful annual event that continues to grow, adding new cities, team members and vendor partnerships along the way.

We were so inspired by the story and vision behind the company, we had to be a part of this event!

Each year, the BFW travels to 25 cities with a different wedding style and theme for each event. Their team hand-selects local vendors to work together by providing their products and services to create the fake wedding of your dreams. I may be biased, but the Raleigh event was definitely one for the books!

We had the opportunity to work with the amazing BFW team and INCREDIBLY talented group of vendors as this years jewelry vendor. We worked with Oak City Bridal, Bella Bridesmaids and Silverceilings Beauty Consulting to style the bride and bridal party with our special occasion earrings.

Check out their website for more event details and a calendar of upcoming events in other cities.

The wedding dress, provided by Oak City Bridal, was beyond stunning. The bride wore our Felicity Post Earrings, an elegant design of clustered crystals that add just enough sparkle. Their fanned shape and size beautifully frame the face, especially with an up-do. We chose earrings in a silver finish to complement the silver beading on the dress, creating a cohesive and polished look. The Felicity Earrings are classic, glamorous and subtle, all at the same time.

The bridesmaids dresses, provided by Bella Bridesmaids, wore similar dresses in two different styles. We finished their look with different earrings that complemented their dresses and each others, for a unique but consistent bridal party look. One bridesmaid is wearing our Charlotte Post Earrings and the other is wearing our Cagney Drop Earrings, both in a silver finish.

The Charlotte Earrings, an effortlessly gorgeous floral stud, were great for this dress, as the ties on the shoulders already make a statement. The Charlotte Earrings are great bridal or bridesmaid option for someone looking for a delicate earring, as their glimmering glass crystals add the perfect touch.

The Cagney Earrings are a traditional drop comprised of pointed oval crystals. A personal favorite, I think they are just the right size. They look just as beautiful in pictures as they do in person, which is important on your wedding day! Their feminine and sophisticated glamour create a timeless pair of earrings everyone needs in their collection.

If you are a newly engaged bride, check next year's calendar and make sure to buy your tickets. It is truly a one of a kind event!
